Translucent Cyanotypes

|

I recently tried a new-to-me filter paper with the hope that I could use it to make translucent chromatograms that don’t need to be mounted. It’s showing limited success with chromatograms but has been fantastic for cyanotypes. Its translucency means that I can fold up the paper, place a digital negative on top of it, and the negative will expose each folded layer to varying degrees.

This paper is very narrow and on a roll, so naturally, high off the success of my chromatogram banners, I made cyanotype banners.

It’s been such a joy to wake up to vibrant blues above my bed.

Though I joke about having entered my banner phase, I don’t just want to only make banners. That’s why the other day, I took down a banner, chopped it in half, and made curtains. And the cats have yet to tear them down! So today I added two more strips. I’m planning on adding more and more strips until I’ve expanded my narrow test curtains into full on curtains.
